Cabinet Handle Makeover on Farmhouse Kitchen 911

No time to repaint your entire wall of cabinets? Try a cabinet handle makeover!

Cabinet Handle Makeover Main (1)
In order to change up the look of my kitchen in an attempt to give it more of a vintage farmhouse feel, I first painted the counter tops and then began to attack the cabinet handles after I realized that painting my large amount of cabinets would take FOREVER. Being short on money and the amount of hours that I could sink into the mini-kitchen update, I’m glad that I went this route instead of plunging head-first into a project that would’ve taken me much longer to complete.
Cabinet Handle ITEMS -- USED FOR THIS PROJECT

My son and I began taking off all of the cabinet handles in the kitchen with a drill, then spread out a tarp on our carport.

We laid out the handles carefully in rows, then sprayed them with the metallic Rustoleum spray paint in Antique Nickel, then flipped them over to spray the other side when the first side was good and dry. I only did one thorough coat on the handles because I wanted to allow the differences in the brass part of the handles and the white center portion of the handles to affect the final appearance. Doing this allowed the handles to retain color variation between the two parts.

I waited a day after spraying the handles with the metallic (I used Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Flat Metallic Antique Nickel) before spraying the clear top coat (I used Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Multi Purpose Clear Spray Paint) to make sure each coat was fully dried.

Kitchen 911 Handles Reinstall them
After the clear sealant coat was fully dried my oldest son and I removed them from the tarp and began reinstalling them on the cabinets with the drill. This is his area of expertise so I let him handle most of the drill-wielding. Reinstalling the handles was by far the most time-consuming part of the entire process. I’m really pleased with how well the handles change the look of our cabinets and work with the new color of the counter tops!

I will be adding more posts and pictures as I accomplish other projects in the Farmhouse kitchen I’m working so hard to create.
