McWane Center Review

The kids and I have been dying to visit the McWane Center in Birmingham, Alabama for quite sometime, but random life situations and sickness have kept us from going. We arrived, and after parking in conveniently-located parking deck, we took the elevator that opened into the McWane Center lobby at landing. Immediately, we saw scores of excited school-kids milling around with their teachers and chaperons. I inwardly groaned, thinking that the exhibits would be crowded and that it would be hard for me to keep up with my own children in such a crowd. We made our way to the ticket counter, stood in a fast-moving line and received our tickets for the science center and chose the movie we wanted to see in the IMAX theater. The customer service representative was very helpful, and suggested that we see “Island of the Lemurs” because she thought it would appeal to all of my children. We applied our sticker badges and entered the science center. WOW. There are so many different exhibits to explore that we had trouble deciding what to look at first! We went up a flight of stairs to the second floor to see amazing dinosaur exhibits. My…

AirWalk Trampoline Park

Over the past few weeks I’ve seen multiple Facebook statuses about the AirWalk Trampoline Park in Birmingham, Alabama, and I knew it was something that my kids would LOVE to experience. Until recently I had never heard of a Trampoline Park, but when many of my friends began telling me about the fun place to jump in Birmingham, AirWalk, I knew that my kids would love to try it out! As a mom of four kids, I was really impressed with the convenience of AirWalk’s registration process. After entering the building and getting a feel for the cool, SkatePark-inspired environment, I noticed three touchscreen monitors that were designated for registration. Instead of filling out paper waivers each time a guest visits, all he or she has to do is sign in after their initial registration in the system. This may sound like a small thing, but as a mom of four kids, it’s an absolute terror to fill out those paper things each time I bring my kids to an amusement place (Pump It Up, I’m looking at you!) while I attempt to keep my kids from tearing the place up and harassing strangers. It took me less than three…

Callaway Gardens Fantasy in Lights

Would you believe that before last week I had never been to the amazing Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens? It’s something I’ve been dying to do ever since I was a kid, and getting to experience it myself with my kids as THEY experienced it for the first time was an incredible occasion… one that we will all be talking about for many years to come. If you’ve never heard of Fantasy in Lights let me tell you all about it! Before we embarked on the actual journey of lights through the forest, I took my children to the “Christmas Village” that’s included in the Fantasy of Lights to see what all it had to offer. Immediately we were greeted by the delicious smells of “fair food” and the kids all began asking to try various things. I reminded them that they had already eaten supper, but I after seeing the variety of foods for sale, I wish we had waited to eat at the Christmas Village! I promised them that we would get a treat before we left if they were well-behaved and ushered them towards the dome where people were congregating. Inside several craft stations for kids…
