Free Time? What Free Time?!

By:Jessica Azar Why on Earth does my son’s school think it’s a good idea to send home ONE tee-shirt for a child to wear EVERYDAY for an entire week? Have any of your kids’ schools done this? The last week of school, they celebrated “Cultural Week”, and previous Friday the school sent home a Cultural Day Tee for him to wear. He informed me that they “get to” wear it everyday for the next week to school! Yippee! Now if I were a kid forced to wear a school uniform every day, I’d probably be pumped to wear a tee shirt of any kind, too. But I’m not the kid, I’m the mom of a typically messy first-grade boy which means I’m supposed to find time to wash this shirt every freaking night for a week. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS. I do threeish loads of laundry a day to keep up (when the stars align and I’m actually able to get things done around here), and being that this happened at the end of the school year, when schedule craziness abounds, it’s a crapshoot as to whether I will be able to wash then dry this shirt…

Five Ways to Have Fun for Free

By: Jessica Azar As I mentioned in Saving Money and Having Fun, Too! Our family is trying very hard to cut out wasteful, mindless spending because, although it’s seriously fun, we are not meeting our savings goals when we have the means to be putting a serious dent in them. In attempting to do this, I’m seeking every possible way I can to find fun things for the Herd to do that don’t cost much money or (even better) any money at all. So here are my latest attempts to provide fun on a budget… I present Five Ways to Have Fun for Free. 1) Bubbles What kid doesn’t like Bubbles? I decided to go to Target at buy each of the kids a Bubble Wand (they were $.99 each), a toddler bubble bucket with wands for LLL to make it easier fir her and less messy ($5) and a huge jug of bubble…

Saving Money and Having Fun, too! Finding Free Kids Activities and Adventures

By Jessica Azar I’m a week late writing this post, but since it will be a topic that I will be revisiting, I’m going to go ahead and write it! The High Roller and I started looking at our finances and realized that we are spending way too much money on frivolous things, like going out to eat a ton of times during the month, or on entertainment, when there are obvious alternatives right in front of us…. They might require more planning and effort, but they’re there. We are trying to regroup and refocus on accomplishing our financial goals, like completely paying off our vehicles and saving enough to start building our new house… So changes must be made! The thing is, a few years ago, when Butch Cassidy and Sundance were very, very small, money was very tight for us and we found all kinds of ways to save money and make do with much less. Over time, as our income has improved, we’ve allowed our spending to grow alongside of it, and while a certain amount of that is just fine (I believe in enjoying some of the fruits of your labor in the present) we have…
