The Irony of Potty Training- Postcards from the Herd

After having a really rough day yesterday, where I was yelling at everyone and none of the kids were behaving, my youngest Child, LLL, who is in the midst of potty training, went to the bathroom, sat on her potty, and went number two without even telling me she needed to go. Parents who have potty trained a kid (or 4, in my case) know what a huge deal this is… And it made me really excited and happy. Then the irony of the situation dawned on me… My child crapping on the toilet made my really bad day all better. This is one of those things people don’t tell you about parenting ahead of time. The crap cancelled out the other crap. So I present to you the new Postcard From the Herd!

The Trap Door

I so did not anticipate having this discussion with Butch Cassidy today… But then again, things rarely go as expected around here! After having him home from school today (long story, but he woke up and had hidden all of his dirty uniforms, and said that he had a clean uniform for today which was untrue… Or a LIE. So, he was forced to stay home and do Laundry ALL day) I was enjoying talking with him while we took a break to play in the backyard. While swinging, he looked at me and said, “Do ladies poop babies out of their butts to let them be born?”. I was momentarily stunned, but I decided that I wasn’t going to lie to him or blow it off… I regained my composure, and wanted him to see me respond confidently and relaxed, so that he wouldn’t feel like he shouldn’t have asked. It was a legitimate question,and he deserved a legitimate answer… So I said “No, ladies have a special opening that their underwear covers. The baby comes out of that when they’re ready to be born.”. He thought for a moment and said, “Oh, so is that the womb?”… Again,…
