The Gift of Humor Giveaway

Gift of Humor Giveaway

Now that Thanksgiving is over, many of us are getting serious about our Holiday Shopping (or continuing to procrastinate) and silently wondering freaking out about what to get for our friends and family! Most of can’t spend tons of money on gifts, and isn’t the Holiday Spirit really more about doing things to help others and make them happy than spending tons of money?! One of the best ways to help others is to make them laugh…. Laughing makes us all all happy, and when we are happy, our outlook on life improves.

All of that positivity going around could….dare I say it… Change the world!

Don’t you want to change the world with your Holiday Gift choices?

Of course you do…. Especially when you can do it without breaking the bank.

How can I make everyone I love happy, not break the bank, and make sure my purchase isn’t a breakable piece of crap, you say?!

You give them a book that will make them laugh so hard they pee in their pants! THE GIFT OF HUMOR!

Luckily, I have compiled a list of several HILARIOUS books that are sure to leave your loved ones in stitches (the good kind)for you to peruse… there’s likely to be a book for many of the adults on your Nice (or Naughty) List. These are in no particular order… just the order randomly generated by my overactive ADHD…

1) The Big Book of Parenting Tweets: Featuring the Most Hilarious Parents on Twitter

This book includes some of the absolute funniest tweets by parenting humor authors, that I have ever read… and what’s great about THIS particular book is that it doesn’t take lots of time to read enough to get a good laugh into your day…. at that moment when all hell has broken loose in your house and you think you might never smile again, this is the book to grab. Humor tweeting superstar, Kate Hall and the masterminds of humor at Science of Parenthood have teamed up to edit this groundbreaking type of humor book just in time for the Holidays! It’s like a shot of Xanax that you don’t need a prescription to buy! This is a great one for anyone on your list who likes great one-liners…. not just parents.

2) Clash of the Couples: A Humorous Collection of Completely Absurd Lovers’ Squabbles and Relationship Spats

Okay, maybe I’m biased, because I have an essay in this anthology…. but for anyone who’s ever been in a relationship will be able to relate to the arguments in this book. Clash of the Couples contains some of the classic arguments that couples engage in… and every reader will likely be able to think of a seriously stupid argument they’ve survived. This book would be great for newlyweds or those that are engaged… or anyone else held captive by the chains of love.

3) It’s Really 10 Months: Delivering the Truth About the Glow of Pregnancy and Other Blatant Lies

Oh My WOW…. if you know someone that is pregnant, THIS is the present you MUST get for them!!! These ladies are hilariously blunt about the good, the bad, and the downright hideous in’s and out’s of pregnancy… It goes through a series of emails between three awesome women who were pregnant at the same time, and it’s nice to know that you’re not the only one experiencing certain things. Funny and brutally honest. Not only will a couple of friends be getting this for Christmas, but it’s also a new go-to baby shower gift for me!

4)People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Competitive Crafters, Drop-Off Despots, and Other Suburban Scourges

Oh my gosh y’all…. this book is an absolute gem. The insanely popular author, Jen Mann ( her blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat can make anyone laugh), discusses so many of the frustrations that moms experience (regardless of whether they live in the suburbs or the city. Her very blunt, hilarious commentary on the life events she writes about will leave a lasting impact on the way you see the same crap in your own life. Jen’s style does include copious amounts of ‘language’, so if that bothers you, or your intended gift recipient, take that into consideration… but know that it’s part of her writing style, which is exceptionally smart and well-articulated. This would be a great present for one of your Mom pals!

5) Who Stole My Spandex?: Midlife Musings from a Middle-Aged MILF

This autobiographical book by Marcia Kester Doyle (of Menopausal Mother blog fame) had me cracking up! The wild and crazy events in her life, coupled with her self-deprecating humor will leave you feeling like you made a new friend. All I have to say is COUPLES COLONOSCOPIES… she’s not scared to discuss the more embarrassing areas of life. Although I’m not quite to the midlife/menopausal stage of life that she’s writing from here, I still LOVED it and highly suggest it as a gift for any woman you know that loves to laugh… a great gift for a Mom or Cool Mother-in-Law, for sure!!

6) I Heart My Little A-Holes: A bunch of holy-crap moments no one ever told you about parenting

Being a parent is an amazing, life-changing experience… but there are times when the insanity pushes us beyond the point of appreciating the adorable coos and macaroni artwork. Karen Alpert says what so many of us are thinking when those moments arise, and in a way that will make your jaw drop and have you laughing so hard that you’ll forget that the poop from your son’s diaper got in your hair that morning. The fantastic thing about her humor is that you really don’t even have to be a parent to love her writing… but if you are, just know that you’ve met the Richard Pryor of parenting humor.

7) The Mother of All Meltdowns: Real Stories of Moms’ Finest (Worst, Completely Awful) Moments

This is one of the first humor anthologies I ever read, and it hooked me on the genre. As a mom, I could so associate with the women that wrote these essays about the day the other shoe dropped in their houses… and they lost their damn minds. There are so many great authors that you will love in this book, but one that stays with me is Jen Kehl’s about her son that loves to take EVERYTHING in their house apart… and what happened the day he went to work on the washing machine. Whomever you give this book to will LOVE YOU every time they read it… because they will be reminded that all moms have to crazy sometimes.

8) I Just Want to Pee Alone

I Just Want to Pee Alone, edited by Jen Mann (see number 4 on this list) is a CLASSIC anthology in parenting humor written by some of the absolute FUNNIEST humans walking around on planet Earth. As someone who is regularly stalked from room to room in my house by a Herd of howling kids every time I want to relieve myself, this book resonates with me deeply, and it will do the same for ANY PARENT you’ve ever met. GREAT gift! I bet your kids’ teachers would love it too…. they certainly know what it’s like to want to have a moment of privacy away from the maddening crowd of 8 year-olds in their care.

9) I Just Want to Be Alone (I Just Want to Pee Alone) (Volume 2)

Everyone LOVED I Just Want to Pee Alone so much that Jen Mann, hilarious woman that she is, decided to do a follow-up anthology! We ALL know about the need for personal space…. and sometimes, as much as we love the men in our lives, we just want them to leave us the hell alone…. especially when he leaves his dirty floss on YOUR bedside table (the High Roller doesn’t do that… it just sounded gross). This book contains a group of essays that will leave whomever you gift it to howling… and feeling like she’s understood and has a new list of funny writers’ works to explore!
